Most artists hoping to make it big in country music move to Nashville instead of away from it, but not Sara Jean Kelley. She grew up right here in Music City, born into a family of musicians that encouraged artistic expression and never hesitated to jump in the car and head across the country for the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
Sara Jean could hardly wait to set off on her own adventure, and just days after graduating high school, that’s exactly what she did, loading up her car for a long road trip that would inspire her next move in life. A gal has a lot of time to think while behind the wheel, hours upon hours of asphalt flying by underneath, and what started as a simple vacation turned into a two-year sabbatical spanning the west. She reveled in the vast Colorado wilderness that would become a temporary new home and soaked in the inspiration that surrounded her, never forsaking her Southern roots.
Live from the Loveless Cafe tonight, the lovely and talented Sara Jean Kelley will be performing alongside her sister, Justyna and mother, Irene Kelley as part of the weekly Music City Roots showcase.
If you haven’t had a chance to catch this weekly event, hosted by Jim Lauderdale, tonight is the perfect opportunity to do so as the lineup also features performances from Sarah Siskind, Rockin Acoustic Circus, Girlyman and Sam Lewis.
The event kicks off at 7p.m. and tickets are only $10 each and are available here. The Loveless Cafe is located at 8400 Tennessee 100 in Nashville.
Here’s a little sample of the Kelley sisters performing “Wintertime Blues.”
Tomorrow night is set to be a busy one and here’s why:
The lovely and amazingly-talented Sara Jean Kelley will be performing at the “Tuning In” event for the NECAT network at 6:30pm on Thursday night. The event includes performances from SJK, Gretchen Peters, David Olney, Sergio Webb, Kristi Rose and Fats Kaplin and is hosted by Brad Schmitt and Adam Dread. Tickets are $25 and include food provided by area restaurants and drinks too! Seating is limited for this very special event, so order your ticket today online or call 615-354-1273. All proceeds go to improve the quality and quantity of local, commercial-free programming on Nashville’s television… NECAT network. And if you can’t make it to the event, you can tune in and catch it live. It wil be broadcast on Comcast channels 9, 10 and 19 starting at 7p.m.
Also on Thursday night, I’ll be heading down to 12th and Porter after the NECAT event for a performance from The Campaign 1984, a hard rock outfit out of Asheville, North Carolina. They’ll be performing along with The Hollywood Kills, Dot Dot Dot and Oh No No and you can get your tickets right here folks. See you there!
MONDAY NIGHT IN MUSIC CITY
(Click photos to view slideshow)
Monday night turned out to be a lovely night to catch some live music in Nashville. I kicked things off with Sara Jean Kelley’s beautiful set at National Underground, the new downtown bar owned and operated by the DeGraw brothers. From there we headed to Winner’s on Division Street for the Whiskey Jam, a weekly gathering of musicians and songwriters who take turns on the mike performing a few songs. And as usual, the place was packed, which was just perfect since my guys outta Asheville, The Campaign 1984 were able to squeeze into the lineup and perform a few tunes.
Spent an amazing weekend last week down in Mobile for BayFest with The Campaign 1984, Sara Jean Kelley and 3 Doors Down. Check out this video to see what we were up to…
