Otis James is a necktie and bow tie maker here in Nashville, TN. I shot him early last year for a magazine feature. He has an amazing workspace in Marathon Village and I think you should go check it out! Otis James Studio

Thanks for the tip Taylor! I don’t wear bow ties but I support those who do! :)

Rising star Sara Jean Kelley preps for the release of her new album and an appearance at the Country Thunder Festival

Most artists hoping to make it big in country music move to Nashville instead of away from it, but not Sara Jean Kelley. She grew up right here in Music City, born into a family of musicians that encouraged artistic expression and never hesitated to jump in the car and head across the country for the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.

Sara Jean could hardly wait to set off on her own adventure, and just days after graduating high school, that’s exactly what she did, loading up her car for a long road trip that would inspire her next move in life. A gal has a lot of time to think while behind the wheel, hours upon hours of asphalt flying by underneath, and what started as a simple vacation turned into a two-year sabbatical spanning the west. She reveled in the vast Colorado wilderness that would become a temporary new home and soaked in the inspiration that surrounded her, never forsaking her Southern roots.

BACKSTAGE WITH CHROMEO IN NASHVILLE

(click photos to view slideshow)

I know there’s a lot going on this week and even more happening this weekend but quite frankly, if you weren’t at Chromeo’s show at The Cannery Ballroom last night, well then my friend, you might as well just give up on going out at all. I tease, I tease! But seriously, their set was by far the most fantastic one out of the four times that I have had the opportunity to catch them live and the place was packed with industry insiders and kids going ape shit. I’d tell you more but I’m suffering from one helluva Chromeover.

Luckily, one of my most favorite photographers in Nashville, Mr. Clandestine a.k.a. Dustin Lewis (the same fella who shot my photos for Nashville Lifestyles Magazine) was there to catch the action and scored a few lovely shots backstage with the band. Thanks for sharing these Dustin!

One to watch - Sara Jean Kelley

I’ll be heading down to Mobile, AL with this lovely, talented young lady this weekend for her big performance at BayFest. Take a look at my video interview with her to learn more about Sara Jean Kelley.

If Imogene + Willie’s weekly “Our Voice” blog posts haven’t made it on your radar yet, they should. The series, now in its 20th week, highlights local luminaries who support the boutique through thoughtful interviews and beautiful photographs. This week, entrepreneur Whitney Dunn, who co-owns The Perfect Pair in Green Hills, interviews her father, country star Ronnie Dunn about the rustic retreat he recently built for his family in Dickson, TN and what makes it so unique. It’s a lovely read and while you’re there, check out some of the other posts as well with everyone from actress Mary Steenburgen to musician Jessie Baylin, author Libby Callaway and more.

ONE TO WATCH

If you aren’t familiar with Nashville based photographer Dustin Lewis a.k.a. Mr. Clandestine, (pictured bottom right) you should be…like immediately. His work is some of the best I’ve seen coming out of Music City.

You may have spotted him backstage in various local venues tapping the likes of Yelawolf, Questlove or DJ Jazzy Jeff on the shoulder to pose for a quick photo but he’s much more than that. In fact, he is currently wrapping up a music video for Yela’s latest project, a move that I selfishly hope doesn’t pull him away from keeping him all to ourselves right here in Nashville. Get familiar with this fellow, you’ll be glad that you did.
